PRESS RELEASE - November 20, 2007

Marcy Morrison, La Jolla Resident, Wins “Volunteer of the Year Award” from the NorthCounty Philanthropy Council for her work with the Just Like My Child Foundation

La Jolla resident, Marcy Morrison has determined that it is her purpose in life to provide children with wings to rise above poverty and when she heard Vivian Glyck, a local San Diego Mom and the Founder of the Just Like My Child Foundation (www.justlikemychild.org) speak about her work in Uganda – she knew that she had to help.

In the short time that the Just Like My Child Foundation (www.justlikemychild.org) was founded, a little over a year ago, it has made remarkable strides in providing assistance to the people of Luwero, Uganda and the Bishop Asili Clinic. The Just Like My Child Foundation tackles poverty at the root level through health care, education, and microfinance. In the last year, the Just Like My Child Foundation has provided 1,000 mothers with AIDS treatment, sparing 2,000 to 6,000 children from orphanhood; has hired the first doctor to ever serve this neglected community; is sending girls to the best boarding school in the country; and is committed to building schools in villages where girls will die without education.
Marcy found herself telling the Just Like My Child Foundation story and people instantly wanting to help via monetary donations and their time. One person in particular was Becky Candra, Director of the La Jolla United Methodist Nursery School, who is well-known for her big heart and philanthropic efforts. Becky was so moved by the Just Like My Child Foundation’s work that she instantly set up a Mother’s Day campaign at the nursery school that raised over $10,000 and secured enough donations to buy a much needed ambulance for the Bishop Asili clinic. Based on the incredible outpouring during the Mother’s Day campaign, Becky is setting up a similar campaign for the holidays to assist the Just Like My Child Foundation in building a surgical suite at the Bishop Asili clinic. Other amazing volunteers that made major fundraising possible for the Just Like My Child Foundation include Barbara Hagey, Kristin DiBacco, Amy Elkind and Kristen McCabe.

On Thursday, November 8, 2007, Marcy Morrison was one of the recipients of the North County Philanthropy Council’s (http://www.ncphilanthropy.org/) “Volunteer of the Year” award for her work in bringing volunteers and donations to the Just Like My Child Foundation. In addition to her work with the Just Like My Child Foundation, Marcy is a Career Strategist and owner of Careers with Wings (www.careerswithwings.com). Not only is she passionate about giving children wings, she loves helping others develop wings for their careers that will lead them to their dream jobs. Marcy is also the mother of two young boys and loves to provide her own children with wings.
