October 2008 careerswithwings.com Newsletter – Finding Your Passion in Different Phases of Life
Our passions can change throughout life as we go through different phases whether that is when we are in our 20's and have more work experience or we experience a life change, such as, having children, going through a divorce, moving, or perhaps something else that pushes us to uncover our passion or reexamine our interests.
Parenthood, in particular, has a tendency to really give you an opportunity to reexamine your interests, priorities and passions. I will take Stacey Ross's story as an example. Before kids, Stacey had a very busy, fulfilling job with the school system where she would work on implementing grants, counseling, innovative projects among a variety of other tasks. However, when Stacey had kids she realized that this type of work didn't afford her the time she craved to be with her kids and she started to soul-search about what her passions
were and wondered how could she create a business that would be mom-friendly. It dawned on Stacey that she just loved connecting and helping others and in particular, with finding bargains especially in a tight economy. From this passion, Stacey's business was born - San Diego Bargain Mama where Stacey shares her bargain tips via her website and blog.
I really wanted to highlight Stacey's story this month, because in just a short-time, Stacey's business has been a success because she practices the principles that I share in my speaking engagements, book, sessions, etc. To illustrate this, Stacey:
-uncovered what SHE LOVES to do
-TRUSTED HER GUT about what her business idea was and went for it by
BELIEVING IN HERSELF
-MARKETS her business and NETWORKS for success. Stacey is always out
there building relationships and awareness for her business. Now she is sought out by the media as an expert
-has a SUPPORT TEAM who believes in her and helps collaborate with her through tough times
-implements her PLAN - Stacey is focused and committed to making her
business as success
Also, Stacey along with her colleague Julie Gelfat, from San Diego Travel
Tips.com, will be holding a class with Friends
with Class in November. They will share their secrets for success in a workshop "No Guts, No Glory" - A Tale of Two Websites - Lessons Learned During the First Year of Having an Online Business.
